'Bachelor' Star Chris Soules Issues Statement Following Deadly Car Crash

Former "The Bachelor" star Chris Soules appeared in a Buchanan County, Iowa, court Tuesday following his arrest early that morning for leaving the scene of a fatal auto accident.

On Monday night, Soules was arrested for allegedly driving his pickup truck into a John Deere tractor and then driving off, according to TMZ.

The Iowa State Patrol said Soules walked away from the scene but left his truck behind.

The driver of the tractor was later identified as Kenneth E. Mosher, age 66, of Aurora. Soules lives between Arlington and Strawberry Point, about 10 miles from where the crash happened.

The Buchanan County Sheriff's office confirms to ET that Soules was arrested at 1:16 a.m. and is now still in jail on a charge of leaving the scene of a fatal accident. He is now charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident, but could face additional charges as the investigation continues. Authorities would not confirm the incident that led to Soules' arrest with the Des Moines Register. Officers say the truck ran into the back of the tractor, sending both vehicles into roadside ditches.

Soules' Twitter account describes him as an "Iowa Farmer/Entrepreneur".

Before he was wooing women on reality television, Soules received an OWI in 2005, an open container charge in 2001, and several other driving violations over the years, according to KCRG.

March 18, 2001: Soules was found guilty of failing to maintain control of his vehicle and paid a fine. Soules will make his first appearance in court Tuesday in Buchanan County.

He was arraigned on April 25 and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 2. He also appeared on Dancing with the Stars and was most recently seen on Freeform's Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After? and chatter started that he might appear on Bachelor in Paradise Season 4. A judge has set an amount of 10,000 dollars cash only for Soules.

Soules and fiancee Whitney Bischoff split two months after the March 2015 finale of the reality dating show where the couple got engaged.

"His thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Mosher's family", said Rosenfield, who declined to comment further.
