On first day back, Trump lashes out at "fake news media"

President Trump claimed recent White House leaks are lies made up by "fake news writers" - and suggested the coverage of a Montana GOP congressional candidate attacking a reporter is "fake news", in a Sunday morning tweet-storm.

Donald Trump returned to the United States this weekend and resumed his crusade against the "fake news media" which he has now accused of making up sources and fabricating stories about his administration.

The president then declared his nine-day trip overseas "a great success for America" before launching into a number of posts criticizing leaks and anonymous sourcing, following another week of bombshell, Russia-related reports.

The probe into Mr Kushner, first reported by the Washington Post, is focusing on his efforts to set up a "back channel" to communicate with the Kremlin before Mr Trump assumed office.

"It is my opinion that numerous leaks coming out of the White House are fabricated lies made up by the #FakeNews media", the president said in a series of tweets Sunday morning. "#FakeNews is the enemy!" The teams will also hone messaging on the Russian Federation probe, CBS News' Steve Chaggaris reported.

At a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a reporter asked whether he still trusted the USA authorities with sensitive intelligence following reports that Mr Trump had shared secret intelligence from Israel with the Russians during an Oval Office meeting.

There have been series of leaks coming from sources within the White House since he was inaugurated as president.

Mr Kushner's entanglement in the Russian scandal would take the investigation into the inner sanctum of the White House.

In his Sunday tweets, the president also referred to his worldwide trip, saying "Just returned from Europe".

Mr McMaster noted that the so-called "backchannelling" was normal.

"Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace said the network had confirmed that discussions between Kushner and Russian officials had taken place. "They reached out to us yesterday to make sure that we knew that was the case and I'm sure he's willing to do so", Corker said on NBC's "Meet the Press".

Reports have also surfaced recently that Trump shared classified intelligence with Russian officials and asked former FBI Director James Comey to end a federal investigation into former national security advisor Michael Flynn.
