Trump says 'fast decision' possible on new FBI director

The White House on Friday denied that President Donald Trump threatened the former FBI Director James Comey who was sacked by him early this week. The Watergate scandal accelerated drastically when it was revealed Nixon taped conversations in the White House.

Fisher, who would become the FBI's first female director if nominated and confirmed, was an assistant attorney general in the criminal division of the Justice Department and served as a counsel to the Senate special committee that investigated Bill and Hillary Clinton over Whitewater.

These illegal acts can not be ignored.

Comey has not publicly discussed any conversations he has had with Trump. "If no such tapes exist, then the president owes the American people an answer for why he made such a threat".

Sources have told CNN that Trump's decision to ax Comey was made after he grew increasingly frustrated with him following a congressional hearing last week in which he said he was "mildly nauseous" over the idea that he helped sway the 2016 election. Trump, in his NBC interview, said he had been intending to fire Comey for months and that it had nothing to do with the Russian Federation investigation.

Many agents believe Comey was treated poorly by the administration, and acting FBI director and the FBI Agents Association contradicted White House claims that their old boss had lost the confidence of "rank and file" employees.

The U.S. Senate's No. 2 Democrat, Richard Durbin, slammed the president after Friday's tweet about Comey.

In a series of tweets on Friday, Trump also responded to media reports questioning the credibility of White House statements on the Comey firing, which have changed over the course of the week. Nearly all of them are very well known.

Comey was not Trump's only target of an apparent threat Friday - he also suggested the possibility of ending White House press briefings. The ousted director himself is said to be confident that his own version of events will come out, possibly in an appearance before Congress, according to an associate who has been in touch with him since his firing Tuesday. Comey found the allegations confounding, according to his associate, and wondered what to make of what he described as unusual thoughts coming from his new boss. "I was going to fire Comey", Trump said.

President Trump fired Comey this week following the recommendations of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. That's far different from the White House's initial account in the hours after Comey's firing.

Mr Trump said in an interview with television network NBC that the Russian Federation investigation factored into his decision to fire Mr Comey. McCabe characterized the investigation as "highly significant" and assured senators that Comey's firing would not hinder it. He said there has been no interference so far.
