Beamer, Brown debut on College Football Hall of Fame ballot

Trev Alberts became the 17th Nebraska player in the College Football Hall of Fame, as he was inducted in 2015.

Former UConn linebacker and current Kansas City Chiefs general manager John Dorsey was named as a candidate Thursday for the College Football Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame Class of 2018 will be announced on January 8, 2018, in Atlanta, the site of the CFP National Championship.

Frank Beamer is this close to being in the College Football Hall of Fame. They are also be honored at their respective schools at an NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute, presented by Fidelity Investments, during the 2018 season. Killinger was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a player in 1966.

Three college football players with Arkansas ties are on this year's ballot for the College Football Hall of Fame. The bios were compiled by the National Football Foundation. The coaches of that group include Andy Gustafson, who had far more success in 16 years at Miami post-World War II than his stint with the Hokies in the late '20s, and Jerry Claiborne, for whom Beamer played at Virginia Tech from 1966-68. He still ranks No. 4 all-time in NCAA history. Ranks fifth among all FBS coaches in games as a head coach...

He's one of the most decorated players in Ole Miss history.

Among the coaches joining Beamer on the ballot for the first time is his long-time friend Mack Brown, who guided Texas to the 2005 national title and won 244 games there and at Appalachian State, Tulane and North Carolina. Led the nation in interceptions (12) and return yards (501) during the final season at FSU... "Marcus achieved everything he could individually as a receiver during his Wyoming career, and he helped lead our program to a top 25 ranking and berth in the inaugural WAC Championship Game in 1996".

Matt Cavanaugh, Pittsburgh-Quarterback-1977 First Team All-American who led the Panthers to a 1976 national title... Buckley was also on the ballot previous year. Set A&M records for career sacks (37) and single-season sacks (20 in 1979)... He finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting following the 1994 campaign.

A coach becomes eligible three full seasons after retirement or immediately following retirement provided he is at least 70 years of age. NC State's all-time leader in receiving (3,379) and all-purpose yards (1,979).

Olsen lettered three years for the Aggies from 1967-69 and was a 1969 consensus first-team All-American.

Ray Lewis - Linebacker, Miami Fla. He was a 1987 First Team All-American after leading the NCAA in tackles in 1986 and 1987. He was named All-Big Ten three times. McClinton also holds the record for interceptions in a season at Auburn with nine.
