Golden State Warriors move one win away from record

It had been so very long since the Warriors had faced any real drama. Back to when we still thought the Giants were a good baseball team. The ball made its way to James, who rose for a corner three, only to be stripped by Andre Iguodala. That's a lifetime ago.

That culture, as anyone who has been around the Warriors will tell you, is Curry's.

Had Cleveland won tonight, there would have been some remaining hope that the finals could really turn into a series.

Cleveland Cavaliers, down 0-2 in the series, and egged on by a raucous home crowd was leading by six points with 3:09 minutes to go.

And then, quite suddenly, it wasn't. Even the Cavaliers must at this point, after watching a late fourth-quarter lead evaporate in the 118-113 loss in Game 3 at Quicken Loans Arena.

They are one win away, of course.

On Friday night, they can raise another championship trophy.

"And it shows. The guys that probably work the hardest, that have that killer instinct and that mindset, we don't care if we make or miss". After a timeout, the Cavaliers drew up a play to get James a corner 3. Kyrie Irving played 44.

"That's what we always talk about, we all just want to have some fun but play disciplined", said Durant. And now they have only one day to prepare for Game 4.

Cleveland led by six points with three minutes to play but Durant led an impressive 11-0 run to secure the win.

"Basketball is a feisty sport", Curry said. "He knows this is his moment". They even had a third scoring option come through in J.R. Smith, who had 16 in the game and still it wasn't enough.

"Obviously it's a dramatic situation to be in, but it is what it is, we've got to get ready for game four". After all, he is averaging 34 points and 10 rebounds a game and pulled out Game 3 for Golden State with a three-pointer that clinched the 118-113 victory over Cleveland.

"I'm human, as well as my teammates, and to lay it all on the line like that, you want to come out on the winning side", Irving said.

"We just felt like the way they play, Kyrie and LeBron had it going the whole game", Golden State coach Steve Kerr said.

But the Cavaliers did not score in the final three minutes of the game. Irving was asked if he ever imagined scoring 38 points and LeBron James scoring 39 points - and the Cavaliers losing. But Curry hit back-to-back 3s on a 10-0 run to close the entertaining and exhausting quarter. The Cavs took forever to foul. The Cavs threw haymakers in the form of circus Irving layups and gorgeous James dishes.

"I knew I had to give LeBron at least a two-minute blow in that first quarter because in the second half he might not get a blow", Lue said. The shot gave the Warriors a one-point lead with 45 seconds left. But he kept it together and was on the floor at the end.

If the Cavaliers can orchestrate another comeback, they would become the first team in Finals history to erase a 3-0 deficit and the first repeat winners since the Miami Heat in 2012 and 2013.

And they nearly did in Game 3. Clearly, they have no real competition in the East, but the idea of running into these same Warriors in the Finals next year has to be quite daunting.

Much is different now, and the addition of Durant is just one of those things. James became the first player to appear in 20 or more Finals games with two franchises.

But it comes by recalling the pain of last year's finals. They lost their composure and allowed Cleveland to rattle them. The Warriors had seized a 3-1 lead on the Cavaliers only to have James lead the greatest rally in NBA Finals history, becoming the first team to win the championship after trailing 3-1.

That's the only sanctuary left for the Cleveland Cavaliers, the defending champs whose playoff slogan - "Defend the Land" - was no match for the reality of these NBA Finals.
