Police release photos of London attackers' fake bomb belts

Cops walk past newly installed barriers on London Bridge on June 8 following the June 3 terror attack

London police released pictures of phony explosives worn by attackers and designed to create "maximum fear" in last week's attacks on London Bridge and nearby Borough Market.

The fake explosive belts were visible during the attacks, Haydon said and may have looked real to those who saw them.

Although Islamic State militants have claimed responsibility for the attack, Haydon said on Saturday there was no evidence the attackers, who had links to Libya, Morocco, and Ireland, were directed by anyone else, either in Britain or overseas.

Police appealed for information about the distinctive 12in pink kitchen knives, which have a ceramic blade and bore the name "Ernesto", a reference to the branding used by Lidl for its homewares range.

Details emerging from the attack point to plans for a large-scale assault.

He rented a different van later that evening. But one of those animals could detonate and kill us all.

The statement further explains, "The attackers had wound duct tape around the handles, and in Butt's case, a leather strap had been attached to the handle and was hung around his wrist".

Police have installed security barriers running alongside the sidewalks at eight bridges across the River Thames, and Haydon said similar protection was being considered at other locations.

They say the attackers may have planned even worse carnage. As the three set upon one young male passerby armed police arrived and shot them dead, firing a total of 46 shots.

Inside the van, police found two blowtorches as well as what appeared to be 13 Molotov cocktails made from wine bottles and a possible flammable liquid.

Police still believe there are "many others" who witnessed the attack but are yet to come forward.
