The Bat-Signal Will Be Lit In Tribute To Adam West

Tonight, his career and fantastic contribution to comic book history will be remembered and celebrated with the Bat-signal's projection onto Los Angeles City Hall at Spring Street.

The live-action "Batman" show, starring West along with Burt Ward as his sidekick Robin and a collection of colorful villains, was inspired by a long-running comic book series.

Mayor Eric Garcetti, addressing the "citizens of Gotham", named former Batman actors such as George Clooney, Christian Bale and Ben Affleck.

Earlier this week, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane also paid tribute to West - after he played an exaggerated version of himself in the cartoon series.

He was also standing next to a red phone that looked like the one used by Gotham City's commissioner James Gordon to chat to Batman.

The public memorial came days after the death of the Batman legend, who died last week at the age of 88.

"Adam West taught us each one of us had a heart of gold". Last Saturday (10.06.17) West's family shared a touching tribute to their "Bright Knight" and said he'll always be their "hero".

I can't tell you how jealous I am of all the lucky L.A. residents who will get to see the symbol shine in the sky. The iconic bat signal was splayed across the LA City Hall tower at 9 p.m. PT.

West's wife and children attended the event, Garcetti said.

Before starting with the episode, a special tribute card honoring West's life, contributions to the show and achievements will be projected on the screen. The actor was 88 years old when he passed away.

West was reportedly cast as the billionaire superhero after producer William Dozier noticed him playing a Bond-like character in a Nestle Quik TV commercial.
