Mike Williams may need season-ending surgery

Mike Williams Injury The Latest To Prove Chargers Wide Receivers Are Cursed

A star at Clemson previous year, Williams was a big part of the team that won the national championship over Alabama.

Williams is now dealing with a herniated disk in his back, getting a second epidural recently in an effort to help his recovery.

Williams was diagnosed with a herniated disk after his first practice during rookie minicamp and did not practice again. This puts a lot of pressure on Phillip Rivers and the Chargers pass attack, especially after their top back Melvin Gordon battled hip and knee injuries. The team announced he was dealing with a mild disc herniation back in June and would miss the remainder of pre-training camp workouts. The good news for the Chargers is they're well-stocked at receiver with Keenan Allen coming back from a torn ACL, Tyrell Williams coming off a breakout 2016, Dontrelle Inman proving capable as a No. 3, and Travis Benjamin as a deep threat. According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Williams is responding well to the current treatment.

Still, NFL.com reported that he's expected to begin training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Williams allegedly may have "masked" the injury in the pre-draft process. One possibility is that Williams incurred the issue during the NFL Draft Combine.

He missed much of the 2015 season with that injury, but returned last year to play a major role in the team's first NCAA Championship in more than 20 years.

So no, the Chargers can't catch a break.
