Woman destroys RM857,900 of art in selfie mishap

Image 14TH FACTORY

Hyperallergic reports that the woman was visiting The 14th Factory, a collaborative art experience organized by the Hong Kong-based British artist Simon Birch.

The video has gone viral upon its release, showing the woman's repeated attempts to catch the best selfie angle.

The exhibit will continue running at The 14th Factory until July 30.

The show features works by him and 20 other artists displayed in 14 rooms.

According to Mashable, the unidentified woman was at the gallery to partake the "Hypercaine" exhibit, which showcases crowns created in a variety of mediums.

"The crowns that had been perched on pedestals fell to the ground", noted CNET. But a few weeks ago, one snap-happy show attendee caused as much as $200,000 in damage when she toppled, domino style, a series of plinths, Gloria Yu one of the artists involved told Hyperallergic.

The one who posted the video is claiming that the artist who made those artworks is a friend of his, however, it is not yet confirmed.

The gallery did not say whether the damage was covered by insurance.

Others wondered wondered why the pedestals weren't more securely attached to the floor.

Ironically, the exhibit, which was a series of crown-like objects made from everything from scrap metal to gold, had been recently described by an LA Times critic as a "series of wondrous, over-the-top sets for the flawless selfie".

"Resources, however, were clearly not spent on properly securing the displays".

A woman in Los Angeles has apparently demonstrated just how damaging selfies can be by destroying whole row of pieces of art while trying to get that ideal image.
