British TV star Bruce Forsyth dies aged 89

In a post on Instagram, Tess Daly's husband and TV host Vernon Kay said it was "devastating news" that Sir Bruce had passed away.

The entertainer also presented BBC One's Strictly Come Dancing alongside Tess Daly until he made a decision to leave the show in 2014. I will miss him deeply.

He learned his trade the hard way, in the showbusiness backwaters of the 1950s, and when he emerged as a star at the end of that decade he was already something of a veteran.

The beloved presenter was most recently on our screens on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing but stepped down due to ill health. Who among today's coterie of performers can hope to fill his dancing shoes? "With a twinkle in his eye, he responded 'I've been very, very busy. being ill!'"

He was a torch carrier for the London 2012 Olympics and still holds the Guinness World Record for the male TV entertainer with the longest career.

Mrs May's comments came amid a wave of tributes from stars across the show business industry who shared their memories of the star at various points throughout his 70-plus-year career.

But he struggled to make a career out of his passion until he was picked to host a Sunday night TV variety show in 1958, which propelled him into the limelight.

Mr. Forsyth hosted a number of game shows, including "Play Your Cards Right", "The Price Is Right" and "The Generation Game", which at its peak attracted 20 million viewers.

Bruce Forsyth sadly passed away on August 18 2017 at the age of 89.

Per the outlet, Forsyth was knighted in 2011, becoming Sir Bruce.

'His warmth and his wit were legendary.

"From the moment we met, Bruce and I did nothing but laugh our way through a decade of working together on "Strictly Come Dancing" and I will never forget his generosity, his brilliant sense of humour and his drive to entertain the audiences he so loved".

'He had a remarkable chemistry with his audience - that's what made him such an incredible professional and why he was so loved.

Tributes to Bruce Forsyth have been pouring out on social media, demonstrating just how universally loved the great man was during his lifetime and as he will be remembered in his passing. "We'll miss him so much".
