New York Jets preseason Week 2

Jake Rudock stakes claim as Matthew Stafford's backup

The former Penn State star quarterback got the start on Saturday night.

.

Hackenberg had a mediocre first impression as it's fair to say he regressed big time against the Lions.

Hackenberg completed 2 of 4 passes for only 14 yards.

Brian Costello: Hackenberg just lost his chance to be the Jets starter. Following an underthrown ball to Austin Seferian-Jenkins on a play-action pass, Hackenberg ran for a first down and then fired a strike to Powell in the flat for a 17-yard gain and first down.

On the New York's ensuing drive, they would go six plays for 21 yards setting up a 56-yard field goal Ross Martin, who eventually missed the kick.

We saw one tonight at Ford Field after Jones caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford. The Jets starting quarterback spot looks like it belongs to Josh McCown, though the position is still up for grabs.

The offensive line failed to generate any consistency which hindered their ground game.

And Marvin Jones welcomed them back in style. Prater came out and nailed a 50-yard field goal to essentially seal the win for Detroit and increase the score to 16-6. They did a really good job mixing up looks. Detroit hosts the defending Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots in the next preseason game on Friday, August 25, 2017. Detroit won their first preseason game 24-10 over the Colts in Indianapolis last Sunday, but defensive end Kerry Hyder and linebacker Brandon Copeland both suffered season ending injuries during the game. They have a lot of work to do before they face the Giants next weekend.
