Over 200 Daesh Militants Killed in Strikes on Deir Ez-Zor: Russia

Russian air force kills over 200 ISIS fighterds

Russian air strikes on a military convoy heading for Deir ez-Zor in western Syria are reported to have killed over 200 Daesh fighters and destroyed military vehicles and weapons belonging to the terrorist group.

Up to 800 terrorists were killed, and 106 vehicles with mounted machines guns were destroyed alongside 40 armored vehicles this month, he added.

The Syrian government troops with the support of the Russian Aerospace Forces achieved serious successes and brought substantial losses to a large group of Daesh in central Syria.

Just over a week ago Shoigu said the fall of ISIS in Deir ez-Zor might signal the end of the jihadist's self-proclaimed kingdom.

Earlier this year, the US bombed pro-Assad forces on at least two occasions after it said they violated deconfliction areas and headed towards a USA base in southeastern Syria, most recently in early June.

In addition to Syrian and Russian airstrikes on ISIS targets in Wadi al-Tharda, Taliet Aloush and Sarit Jneid, army units on Sunday attacked terrorist positions in the cemetery area, Thardah, the Panorama and in the surroundings of Regiment 137, SANA reported.

"The liberation of the central part of Syria from terrorists is nearing its end", he said.

After being pushed out by Syrian land forces and Russia's air force from the south of Raqqa province and the west of Homs Province, the terror group is concentrating around Deir al-Zor, the ministry said.
