Brighton must learn to rebound from disappointment, says Hughton

The 29-year-old agreed to sign for Brighton on a season-long loan from Newcastle United in August but that deal has now been made permanent

The 29-year-old agreed to sign for Brighton on a season-long loan from Newcastle United in August, but that deal has now been made permanent.

The permanent deal will now allow the Dutch worldwide to face his former club when the Magpies travel to the American Express Community Stadium this Saturday.

Krul previously played in the Premier League for Newcastle making 185 appearances for the side before going on a string of loan spells to dutch teams Ajax and AZ.

Krul's chances became limited during the club's final season in the top flight, however, and following their relegation to the Championship past year he spent time on loan in his homeland with AZ and Ajax.

Following Krul's departure, a statement on the club's website read (via Goal): "Everyone at Newcastle United would like to thank Tim for his long service to the club, and wish him and his family well for the future".

The Netherlands keeper has featured sparsely since suffering a serious knee injury on worldwide duty, but made 18 appearances for AZ in the Eredivisie last season.

For now at least, Australian global Mat Ryan is likely to remain first choice shot-stopper for the club and will likely start during the game against Newcastle.

Krul made his Brighton debut in Tuesday night's 1-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Bournemouth.

"I've played nearly 160 games in the Premier League and hopefully I can continue that with Brighton".

"Recruitment is not just about one window, Newcastle recruited really well last season and some of the players doing particularly well for them at the moment are ones that were bought last season", said Hughton.

But, if Ryan puts in positive performances, Tim Krul may find himself looking for a regular starting position in a different league next season.
