Everton midfielder Klassen: I still haven't talked to Rooney about Europa League

Ronald Koeman hints Wayne Rooney will start for Everton against Atalanta and warns "every Italian team is hard to beat".

The initial questions were about whether veteran Rooney would be in the starting XI for this Europa League opener.

'Rooney is a great player and has showed it from the start of the season, ' said Koeman.

"He won the title last season with Manchester United".

"I've never played in the group stage of the Europa League before, so it's exciting". I still feel the pain.

But after four games without a win in all competitions, Koeman has work to do. The commitment and the passion, what they showed in the first half was much bigger than what we showed. "But, like always, we will start with a strong team".

The Dutch global ended last term with 14 goals and nine assists in the Eredivisie, and Everton fans expected him to be a source of goals and creativity from midfield after Ronald Koeman snapped him up this summer. It is a strong team and hard to beat I have respect for Atalanta and what they achieved last season.

"I watched these players before on television and now I'm out on the pitch with them".

And the above footage showed the worst of the lot, as sloppy play from the Everton back four was ruthlessly punished by a breathless counter-attack from the Italian club. "Let's hope for a good game. and that the journey will take us a long way in European football".

Everton need a boost following their Premier League defeat to Tottenham at the weekend.

Scroll through some of the reaction below and see what you think. "So I am confident about tomorrow".
