Exclusive new SEAT Leon Cupra R launches

New SEAT Leon Cupra R revealed – to be shown at Frankfurt

Seat announces the Leon Cupra R, a little more efficient and much more exclusive than the CupraSeat will present at the Frankfurt 2017 show a new Cupra R, subject to long-standing rumors. Production will be limited to just 799 units across the world.

Speaking of the new Leon Cupra R, it's a dialed-up version of the already mental Leon Cupra 300.

For the uninitiated, the Seat Leon Cupra is essentially the Spanish cousin of the fabled Volkswagen Golf GTi - both the cars are based on the same platform and share the same set of engines.

Described as "the most powerful road car" in the brand's history, it will be available in limited edition with a 310-Yu "horses" and a manual transmission and 300-HP version with automatic transmission DSG.

As for performance focussed extras (because a nice paintjob doesn't make a auto better to drive), the new Leon Cupra R has its own camber and Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) settings in addition to a limited-slip differential.

You can also expect Brembo brakes for more stopping power and a new exhaust system, which means the new Leon Cupra R has the potential to sound even more lairy.

The wheelarches have been swollen, while front and rear spoilers, side sills and the rear diffuser are made from carbon fibre - the de rigueur material of the modern hot hatchback. Despite the original Cupra R being famous for wearing a bright yellow paint job, this new-generation model is only available in three subdued shades: Midnight Black, Pyrenees Grey and Matte Grey.

We are yet to see a picture of the cabin, although it'll likely mirror the sporty enhancements seen on the outside - Alcantara trim will feature, including the steering wheel, while carbon and copper-finished trim will finish the look off. As a result, the manual Cupra R is officially SEAT's most powerful auto ever.
