Jaguars Owner Says He Was Proud to Join Players

Ravens-Jaguars yields mass protests in response to President Trump

NFL players knelt for the national anthem in droves after days of criticism from President Donald Trump on Sunday.

Shad Khan, the billionaire owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars who locked arms with players in solidarity as the national anthem played before their Sunday game, previously donated to President Trump's inauguration.

Khan, the NFL's only Muslim owner, is a Pakistani-American who became a USA citizen in 1991.

The Jaguars took a 10-0 lead off the Lewis score.

Quarterback Colin Kaepernick started the movement a year ago when he played for the San Francisco 49ers, refusing to stand during "The Star-Spangled Banner" to protest the treatment of black people by police. Goodell said the president's comments showed an "unfortunate lack of respect for the National Football League". Even though the Ravens entered this game as one of the NFL's 10 undefeated teams, this Baltimore squad was far from ideal, giving up up big plays on defense and sputtering on offense.

According to sister station WRTV in Indianapolis, at least seven Colts players sat or kneeled for the anthem ahead of their game against the Cleveland Browns.

Without identifying Kaepernick, Trump aimed a Friday talk at a Huntsville, Alabama, rally at those players who have knelt for the anthem.

NBA stars have also become involved in the issue, with LeBron James describing US President Donald Trump on Saturday as a "bum" over comments he made about fellow basketball star Steph Curry. Even New England Patriots owners Bob Kraft, a longtime Trump supporter, has now lined up against the president on this one.

In Chicago, Trump's feud was the main topic of conversation at the South Loop Club sports bar.

Jacksonville dominated their fifth annual game in the NFL's International Series. "He should know better than anyone that to fire someone due to their opinion is not right".

No players were kneeling during the playing of the British national anthem.

President Trump had delivered a stinging attack on those in the National Football League, like Colin Kaepernick and Michael Bennett, who have chosen to kneel in response to perceived racial injustice and police brutality.

Curry told a news conference in Oakland, California: "It's beneath the leader of a country to go that route".

Linebackers Telvin Smith and defensive end Dante Fowler were among those who raised their fists in solidarity prior to a Week 4 game against the Ravens on September 25 of a year ago.
