Kasich: Trump used Arpaio pardon as a 'political wedge'

Trump Pardons Joe Arpaio, Who Became Face of Crackdown on Illegal Immigration

Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ), from the state Arpaio served as a Sheriff for, tweeted "Regarding the Arpaio pardon, I would have preferred that the President honor the judicial process and let it take its course".

"He kept Arizona safe!".

After talking with Sessions, Trump chose to let the case go to trial, and if Arpaio was convicted, he could grant clemency. Arpaio gained many critics during his time, and the speculation on the pardon had been brewing since the day Arpaio was convicted. He told The Associated Press he was thankful for the pardon.

In "We Remember", see Arpaio seemingly hiding something as he says, "I don't recall", "I don't remember, "I don't recall", "Don't recall", " I don't remember him ever.", "Remember now?

Unlike nearly all presidential pardons, this one did not involve any role for the Justice Department, according to a source with knowledge of the process.

The pardon drew a swift and harsh denunciation from Latinos and political leaders in Arizona and beyond. He has faced multiple legal battles for racially profiling Latinos, and violating county residents' constitutional rights. "During his tenure, Arpaio has attacked almost every marginalized community, including using anti-LGBTQ schemes to humiliate inmates at his "Tent City" prison". He was facing up to six months in jail in a sentencing scheduled for October 5, but Trump pardoned him on Friday night. But years of legal issues and costs stemming from his immigration efforts began to take a toll on his political power at home, and he was handily defeated by a Democrat in the 2016 election. Trump tweeted, calling Arpaio a "patriot". But it has angered his opponents even more. Kennedy undoubtedly infuriated many in Alabama, but he earned a place in history and the respect of the nation for his courage in supporting the Constitution, the federal courts and the rule of law. "We should not allow anyone to believe that responsibility is diminished by this pardon", the spokesperson said. Arpaio insisted his actions were in compliance with federal law and continued to violate the court order. Arpaio was noted for his conviction, which he called "a witch hunt by the Obama justice department". Lawyers in Trump's Justice Department prosecuted the case at a five-day trial this summer. "And by defending someone who has been accused of racist behavior, like Arpaio, he is telling everybody in the United States, you know, it is okay".

The criminal case sprang from the profiling lawsuit that ultimately discredited Arpaio's immigration patrols and is expected to cost taxpayers $92 million by next summer. Prosecutors in the office that handled the case are asked to weigh in.

James J. Fotis is president of National Center for Police Defense and a former law enforcement officer. Both men have also questioned the authenticity of Obama's birth certificate.

Roger Stone, another extremist and a longtime friend of Mr. Trump, predicted last Thursday there would be a "spasm of violence" should this president be impeached. Joe Arpaio intentionally terrorized immigrant communities across Arizona for decades and traumatised an entire generation of Arizonans. Trump asked supporters at Tuesday's rally in Phoenix.

"I'm a Republican. Does that make me a racist?"

Trump issued the pardon seven months after taking office, though it's not unprecedented for a president to issue a pardon in their first year in office.
