Macron says 2024 Paris Olympics a 'victory for France'

L.A. 2028 Chairman Casey Wasserman said: "This 11-year agreement with the International Olympic Committee is the ultimate validation of L.A. 2028's New Games for a New Era, and Los Angeles' vision for the future".

The members of the global olympic Committee have voted in favour of the attribution of the olympic Games in 2024 in Paris, this Wednesday evening in Lima.

"This is a win-win-win situation for Paris, Los Angeles and the entire Olympic movement", said IOC president Thomas Bach.

The evaluation commission signed off on those Monday, saying that although details need to be finalized, it is confident LA can host in 2028.

There were no surprises in Lima Wednesday and no envelope to tear open to reveal the winning city as instead the International Olympic Committee (IOC) ratified a tripartite agreement with Paris and Los Angeles that will see both cities host the Games for the third time each next decade. The IOC made a decision to award two games at the same time, and LA later abandoned its bid for 2024 during negotiations with the IOC and Paris.

"Everyone connected with LA 2028 is thrilled to be part of this win-win-win scenario for the Olympic movement", bid leader Casey Wasserman said in a statement.

Baumann said Wednesday "With Paris and Los Angeles, the Olympic Games are in good hands".

Paris bid organiser Tony Estaguent choked up during the presentation before the vote.

The IOC will take 90 minutes to decide on the hosts for the 2024 and 2028 Olympics.

Both campaign teams summarized their bids in presentations at the 131st IOC Session in Lima, Peru, before the IOC voted to formally confirm the announcements. Paris will host on the 100th anniversary of its previous Games.

Wednesday's confirmation came against the backdrop of a possible global corruption scheme surrounding Brazil's 2016 Olympic bid.

Paris will site events across iconic venues, and will build an Olympic Village along the Seine River at Saint-Denis.

The two cities are getting the hosting rights without the usual dramatic vote.

The Olympic cauldron at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is blazing again, ahead of the expected official awarding of the 2028 Games to LA. It bid unsuccessfully for the games of 1992, 2008 and 2012. For the first time in a generation, we are bringing the Games back to the City of Angels.
