Wubbels was following the hospital's policy (and a recent Supreme Court decision) that requires either a warrant, the patient's consent, or the patient being under arrest for such a sample to be obtained legally.

In accord with hospital policy and the law, she had refused to allow a Salt Lake City police officer to take a blood sample from an unconscious patient.

An Idaho police department is thanking a nurse for protecting an injured officer's patient rights during a viral incident between the nurse and a Utah detective.

The paramedic that arrested Wubbard was sacked from his position Wednesday.

Salt Lake City Council Chairman Stan Penfold read a statement during Tuesday night's council meeting, apologizing to Wubbels for "all she endured" and pledging to take a "hard look at the city's relevant ordinances and policies to determine what changes are needed to prevent needless and regrettable incidents like this from occurring again".

On Monday, Wubbels and Porter discussed how the confrontation unfolded on CNN's "New Day." He added that Wubbels "should not have been subjected to arrest for doing her job" and vowed to put his officers through de-escalation training. "This is insane!" She also asks why the officer is "so angry".

But Ms Wubbels denied the request and handed the officers a copy of the hospital's policy, which does not allow blood to be drawn from a patient who had not given permission or had not been arrested. Meanwhile, Nurse Wubbels is being called a hero for the way that she protected her patient based on the law, and the firing of the officers involved has become a rallying cry.

Wubbels was released after about 20 minutes. "She did everything possible to make that situation work and she wasn't rewarded for it".

"What I can say is that I stood my ground".

"I was scared to death", Wubbels said.

"Obviously, I was very frightened, and I think that since this has happened, I've been able to, sort of, surmise that I feel betrayed", she said.

Police officers caught in acts of brutality-whether against the ever-growing list of African Americans and immigrants targeted by racist police practices, or workers like Wubbels standing up in the workplace-rarely face punishment for their crimes, however. "I stood for what was right, which was to protect the patient", Wubbels told CNN.

How did the university police and security respond?

Suddenly, Payne snaps and tries to grab the phone off Wubbles.
