Ryanair cancels MORE flights, affecting 400000 extra bookings until March

Airline boss and billionaire Michael O¿Leary has apologised to outraged passengers

As a result, 34 routes are suspended for the winter season from November to March 2018.

"In expediting our enforcement action we are seeking to ensure that Ryanair's customers will receive the correct and necessary information, to make an informed choice about an alternative flight".

"If you have not received an email from Ryanair today then you are among the 99% of customers whose flights will be unaffected by these changes", it says.

"We sincerely apologise to those customers who have been affected by last week's flight cancellations, or these sensible schedule changes announced today", said group chief executive Michael O'Leary.

Ryanair has said it will slow the company's growth plan for the winter to help alleviate roster issues.

The firm has been forced into the cancellations after miscalculating pilot leave.

Ryanair has announced that it is cancelling its flights from Edinburgh and Glasgow to London Stansted over the winter.

Chairman Gareth McGreevy said news of the flight cancellations was a complete surprise.

"No further flights have been cancelled for rostering reasons and our first wave punctuality has increased to 96 per cent, while we continue to work hard to resolve this short term rostering failure".

Ryanair said it has also emailed each of the 315,000 customers whose flights were previously cancelled over the six-week period in September and October, offering them the same travel voucher, again for travel between October and March 2018.

However, the carrier was slow to reveal exactly which flights.

Spending below this amount or on debit card may be able to be reclaimed under "Chargeback" but unlike Section 75, this is not a legal requirement.

The no-frills airline previously announced plans to cancel up to 50 flights per day until the October 31, affecting 315,000 customers.

The major disappointment for passengers is likely to be that - as well as Easter - the Christmas holidays are not covered by the vouchers because festive services between 20 December and 7 January are excluded.

Mr Lyons added that the process of lodging compensation claims with Ryanair was already under way, with a bill for hundreds of pounds in unexpected costs racked up.

Earlier this month, the CAA told the airline to make a corrective public statement, to ensure customers were not misled and had accurate comprehensive information relating to their rights and entitlements.
