Facebook, Instagram outages reported worldwide

Facebook and Instagram are down for thousands of users across the US and UK according to reports. The issue appears to be widespread with reports of outage popping up in Brazil Japan India and parts of Europe

Facebook users reported the inability to access both personal Facebook pages and brand pages.

Several users were reporting issues with Instagram as well.

The news quickly spread on rival social network Twitter, with the hashtag #facebookdown quickly trending, as Facebook refugees were welcomed by its denizens.

California-based social media networking service, Facebook is now facing a major outage leaving the users logged out of the popular social media platform.

The independent website DownDetector.com reports that Facebook issues originally popped up a little after 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Outage Report showed the most affected areas as San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City and Chicago, but reports were coming in from all around the U.S. The website reports that 41 percent of people complain of a "total blackout", 36 percent say they can't sign in and another 22 percent are complaining of app connectivity issues.

Instagram, which allows users to share pictures and videos publicly or privately, now boasts more than 700 million active users worldwide.

DownDetector showed the outages were being experienced in the United Kingdom and overseas. "We're sorry for the inconvenience", a Facebook spokesperson told the Daily Dot.

One person revived the oft-made joke that social media going down would force people to go outside.
