Porsche 911 Carrera T is lighter, gets manual transmission

Porsche 911 Carrera T revealed as pared-back special

The base price of the 2018 Porsche 911 T is $102,100 in the U.S., or about $11,000 more than a base rear-wheel-drive Carrera.

Other alterations to make this auto a performance variant include the lowered suspension, optional four wheel steering and the Carrera T interior.

The 911 Carrera T is also the lightest new 911 one can buy.

The vehicle has 20-inch wheels from Carrera S which are painted in Titanium Grey.

The 2018 Porsche 911 T revives the "Touring" trim, but instead of a base model, it's meant more as a mid-level performance offering. The manual-equipped version can hit 60 miles per hour in 4.3 seconds, 0.1 second quicker than the standard 911, thanks to the transmission's shorter constant transaxle ratio and rear differential lock. It will sprint to 62 mph (100 kph) in 4.5 seconds, which is a tenth of a second quicker, then tower to 124 mph (200 kph) in 15.1 seconds and reach up to 180 mph (290 kph).

Starting at $102,100, look for the Carrera T to deliver motoring nirvana-tearing up a scenic, winding road near you very soon. Powering the new model is a 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six with 370 hp and 339 lb-ft of torque. Drivers can opt for full bucket seats, a first for the 911 Carrera, which come at the expense of rear seats. Peer inside and you'll also spot the fabric door pulls, some bespoke textile sports seats and colour-matched stitching in one of three shades.

On the inside, Porsche has confirmed the 911 T will boast a shortened gear lever with embossed shift pattern in red, and seat centres made of Sport-Tex material.

The model also comes with features that are not found on the standard 911 Carrera, including the PASM Sport Suspension that lowers the sports coupe by 0.39 inches (10 mm). With the optional PDK dual-clutch automatic gearbox fitted, the Carrera T will do 0-62mph in 4.2 seconds. The Carrera 911 T is the latest.

Rear-wheel drive Carrera T was lighter by 20 kilograms compared to the original model.

The GT sport steering wheel with leather rim comes standard. A sport exhaust system with black exhaust tips finishes the exterior.

An optional Interior Package for the T (which stands for Touring) adds contrasting colors for the otherwise all-black interior and more 911 badging.
