There was speculation that his old tweets, which saw the YouTuber use racist and homophobic slurs, had rattled producers, however, there was also word of "inappropriate messages".

The woman, who is now 20 years old, told the paper: "I think it was just a rookie error for him, he was very immature then". My entire life is on social media and now, through that, social media is my entire job, my work.

"Jack was a lot younger when he posted them in 2012, but realises that age is no defence", the statement said.

He tweeted: "You all deserve answers as to what's been going on in the press recently, I have filmed a video to apologise for what I've said in the past and to thank you all for the incredible support".

"And I've messed up". I just wasn't thinking back when I'd just left school, and I didn't know what I was doing getting into arguments with people on Twitter before I knew I'd have any impact online.

"I just thought it was annoying and rude for him to keep pestering me about it, I'm glad I never sent anything".

"The thing that most upset me about the messages was when he turned on me - I didn't see any need for that at all". It's hard. Growing up online is hard.

I'm A Celebrity Jack Maynard took to the planks for his first task
It was assumed Jack’s exit was due to tweets which saw him use homophobic and racist language

"All I can do is beg and encourage that you guys don't make the same mistake as well".

In a screenshot of the alleged messages, Maynard says: "Your boobs are so nice! would look good in a bra shot! ever taken one?"

"I'm sure you're all aware, that due to recent press i am now back in the United Kingdom, and I have the opportunity to apologise for my past actions", he wrote.

Then came another blow in the form of "inappropriate" messages, sent when the YouTuber was 17 to a 14-year-old, where his representatives finally chose to remove him from the popular ITV show to allow him to have a say about the allegations made against him.

Ultimately, the continued controversy swirling around Maynard led to his exit from I'm A Celebrity, which is now in its 17th season on ITV.

They'd simply declared: "Due to circumstances outside camp, Jack has had to withdraw from the show", while Jack's agent had stated: "Since it is only fair that everyone should be aware of any allegations made against them and should also have the right to defend themselves, it was agreed it would be better to bring him out".
