Mo Farah Announces Split From Controversial Coach Alberto Salazar

Mo Farah splits with coach Alberto Salazar ahead of move back to London

On Monday evening, Farah posted a video from his home in Portland, Ore. saying that his family misses their home and it would not be possible to continue his partnership with Salazar from overseas.

"I'm not leaving the Nike Oregon Project and Alberto Salazar because of the doping allegations. But both Nike Oregon Project and Alberto are based in the U.S., so it just would not be possible to continue our relationship from London".

All of the 34-year-old's major championship successes have been achieved since he moved to the United States to work with American Salazar in 2011, but a BBC documentary, which aired in 2015, called the Cuban-born coach's methods into serious question. I'm going to be back there. I want to thank each member of OR project and Alberto for what he's done over the years.

Salazar, who is believed to have offered to continue as an adviser to Farah, has been accused of skirting anti-doping rules while training athletes.

"As I've always said, I am a firm believer in clean sport and I strongly believe that anyone who breaks the rules should be punished", Farah told the Sun.

"If Alberto had crossed the line I would be out the door but USADA (US Anti Doping) has not charged him with anything".

Salazar is himself a former marathon runner but Farah now wants a coach who can work with him full-time on a one-on-one basis. After winning gold and silver at those respective distances during the 2017 world championships in London, Farah said he would retire from track racing to focus on road competition.

The British distance star, who retired from the track this summer to step up to the marathon event, will now link up with Gary Lough who coached wife Paula Radcliffe to world-record success over the 26.2 mile event.

During that time, he has also being crowned world champion six times.
