Murder on the Orient Express has performed solidly at box office with $50 million domestically and another $100 million internationally.
The movie hit cinemas in early November (17), with Kenneth Branagh taking on the role of author Agatha Christie's famous sleuth Hercule Poirot.
The vast success of Murder On The Orient Express has immediately prompted 20th Century Fox to announce another Agatha Christie mystery to be adapted for the big screen, Death On The Nile reported Variety.
Christie first published Death on the Nile in 1937, three years after her Murder on the Orient Express was published. The book had been adapted in 1978 into a movie with Peter Ustinov, Bette Davis, Mia Farrow and Maggie Smith in the cast. It won an Academy Award for best costume design.
The thrilling tales of Agatha Christie is going to make a comeback on the big screen with "Death on the Nile". The film has released in the USA though and while not being a massive blockbuster hit in the vein of your typical Marvel or Star Wars film, it has already grossed $148 million off a $55 million budget, so consider it a massive success for the studio. While the answer to the charade will be revealed by Poirot within an incredibly theatrical mise-en-scène - to remind us of Branagh's skillful stage expertise. For now, I only have one request for the new Death on the Nile: just like with Murder on the Orient Express, the sequel must spare no expense in making sure Poirot's mustache looks glorious.
