New faces give England cause for optimism in draw with Germany

Ruben Loftus-Cheek put in assured performance on his senior England debut against the reigning World Cup champions-Germany- no less and the youngster reaffirmed his desire to make Garerth Southgate's squad for the next year's tournament in Russian Federation.

Eric Dier will be the captain of the Three Lions and debut caps could await a host of players, including Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Jordan Pickford and Tammy Abraham.

"As for going to the World Cup, it's still a long season and I look to improve, so I think there's a chance".

If we'd won it would have been better, but I'm really happy, ' Loftus-Cheek, now on loan at Crystal Palace from Chelsea, told ITV.

Germany played England in a football friendly earlier this year in Dortmund.

"I'm really not surprised with what they've done because they've shown that previously in younger ages and in the week in training, there's been an energy about the group".

'I think we did very well against a very well-oiled machine in Germany, ' he said.

"He's got so many good attributes and that's why we put him into the team".

"Again, I remember his first couple of under-21 games with us and you're thinking that he's quick around the goal, he makes saves", the England boss continued.

"I felt like I needed to play a lot, so I came in and said I wanted to go away from Chelsea and play games".

The 21-year-old's calm display, especially when he dropped deep into midfield, won him praise from a variety of experts.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek will make his global debut in midfield, while Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is also in line to win his first cap for England against the world champions. "For me, it was a real positive tonight".

"What we've seen is Gareth will pick those players". I think he'll gain huge confidence from it'.

"They [the u21s] don't have a game and for them to be involved against Brazil would be a brilliant experience for them".
