Stolen John Lennon items recovered in Berlin

German police recovered around 100 items that belonged to late Beatles star John Lennon that were stolen from his widow in NY, including three diaries, two pairs of his signature metal-rimmed glasses, a cigarette case and a handwritten music score.

"This was a spectacular, unusual criminal case", police spokesman Winfrid Wenzel told reporters.

The retrieved goods include three diaries, two pairs of his signature metal rimmed glasses, a cigarette case and a hand written music score - all stolen from his widow Yoko Ono in NY in 2006, and eventually ending up in Berlin.

The first suspect, a 58-year-old German businessman from Turkey, was arrested Monday, November 21, following a raid of his house and vehicles.

Another suspect is reportedly Turkey and is "not available" for law enforcement actions, the AP noted.

During their investigation, police officers and prosecutors also flew to NY, where they met Ono to have her verify the stolen goods' authenticity.

It is still not known when the items will be given back to Ms Ono. The second suspect is one of Ono's former chauffeurs who has a past conviction related to the theft. Neither suspects name was released because of German privacy rules. A now bankrupt auction house claimed that the objects are valued at almost $3.64 million. The three leather-bound diaries that were recovered are dated 1975, 1979, and 1980. The last entry made by Lennon in the books took place on the morning of December 8, 1980, the same day he was shot and killed by his assassin, Mark David Chapman. When the objects will be returned to Ono is still unclear.
