Tencent Will Publish PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds in China, with Some Slight Alterations

PUBG 1.0 Update Second Test Live Adds New Weapons Dramatically Cuts Bandaging Time & More

The main focus of this partnership "will allow PUBG Corp.to cooperate with Tencent, which has successfully developed and published various large-scale online games, on securing a stable network system, the expansion of servers, enhancing anti-cheat prevention technologies and more".

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is on Steam Early Access now with a full release scheduled for later this year, and will be available on Xbox One's Game Preview program on December 12.

The content amendments are core to the deal, as China's regulators panned the game last month for being too violent, stated the report.

The English language press release about Tencent and Bluehole's partnership quotes Tencent's senior VP Steven Ma as saying: "PUBG is now the most popular survival shooter game, and is enjoyed by users all over the world". However, the localisation process not only includes text translations into the new language: it'll also have an impact on the game's content. Chinese tech giant Tencent promised to add "socialist core values" to the game in order to bypass the country's strict censors.

Reuters points out that Tencent rival Netease has inserted red banners carrying slogans such as "safeguard national security, safeguard world peace" into its title Wilderness and Terminator 2.

According to the company, several changes will be made to highlight the spirit of teamwork and competition in the game, ensuring it aligns with "Chinese traditional culture and moral rules".
