Collins calls Apple a "cancer"

Landon Collins calls teammate Eli Apple a'cancer in the Giants locker room

The Giants suspended Eli Apple for the final week of the season, including the finale against the Redskins, "for a pattern of behavior that is conduct detrimental to the team", interim general manager Kevin Abrams said Wednesday afternoon.

If Eli Apple is trying to keep his name out of the headlines, he can't be trying very hard.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away, but it might also cause cancer. "That would be the only person I would change out of our secondary group". Besides, the other two guys, [Dominique Rodgers-Cromarie] and [Janoris Jenkins], I love those two guys. But that first pick?

At 2-13, NY has more losses than any other season in its history. NY is in the process of interviewing general manager candidates following the firing of Jerry Reese and head coach Ben McAdoo on December 4.

So how did that go over with Apple?

For one game he will be.

The New York Post reported last month that Apple almost left the team facility after he was criticized for making bad plays during a film session.

An NJ.com report over the weekend detailed personal issues as the forefront for an explanation on Apple's attitude and season - which includes a falling out with his stepfather. Get the app and get the game. He's got a lot going on with the situation. He didn't say, but we did learn this fun fact about him. "We need him to want to be here and not fighting against us or fighting against the coaches, because if he's fighting against the coaches or the organization or whatever he's fighting against in his head, we don't need him fighting us because that causes conflict".

The following day, Apple denied he had any conversation with Collins, who was livid when told about Apple's comments.

When approached at his locker after the game and asked why he only played 7 snaps (all on special teams), Apple said: "It was a coach's decision". "I talk to (wide receiver) Brandon Marshall". We'll see where things go from here, but having an impressive and respected veteran like Collins call you a "cancer" in a radio interview probably isn't a good sign for your career.

"Is that what he said?" The bad news for Apple is that Collins is likely a lock in any of the team's future plans. "I don't know. It is what it is. I spoke highly of him".

Apple's horrendous season has ended.
