NASA Shares A Shocking Image Of The California Wildfires From Space

SpaceX Cargo Launch to Space Station Pushed to Tuesday

Unrelenting winds fanned towering flames in southern California, where hundreds of thousands of people have been forced to flee multiple devastating fires in the Los Angeles area and new outbreaks near San Diego.

Strong winds are hindering the efforts of fire crews.

One showed the solar array of the space station with California down below, and in the distance, smoke streaming off the coast and into the ocean.

NASA astronaut Randy Bresnik photographed the plumes of smoke on December 5, and shared the images with his followers on social media, writing, "Thank you to all the first responders, firefighters, and citizens willing to help fight these California wildfires".

From his perch aboard the International Space Station 250 miles above the Earth's surface, NASA astronaut Randy Bresnik snapped a series of unsettling photos and posted them on Twitter.

The images offer a different perspective on the scope of the fires, with most capturing massive plumes of smoke. "Unfortunately we can", Bresnik tweeted on Wednesday evening, accompanied by a series of devastating images.

The California wildfires have burned through so much acreage in the Golden State that the smoke is visible from space.

The European Space Agency also photographed the Thomas fire, 143,000-acre blaze, which quickly spread through Ventura County.
