U.S. is planning 'bloody nose' military attack on North Korea, report says

A spokesperson for North Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday reportedly responded to the Trump administration's accusations that it was responsible for the WannaCry cyberattacks, via the state-owned Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), calling them "absurd".

The WannaCry ransomware attack was a massive infiltration of over 300 thousand computers all around the globe.

The White House commended Microsoft and Facebook, along with other corporations, for taking actions last week to disable and disrupt North Korean cyberattack exploits, according to a press briefing Tuesday.

The latest accusations against the communist government only heighten the tensions between the USA and North Korea, which have been battling for months over North Korea's nuclear and missile program. "North Korea, however, says the Hwasong-15 could reach mainland USA carrying a 'super-large heavy warhead'".

Not only have the USA and its allies increased missile defense deployments to the region, it's also deployed F-35 stealth fighters that have some capability to shoot down missile launches.

If the U.S. attacks North Korea, it might just call a long-standing bluff and bring the embarrassing realization that Pyongyang's bark is worse than its bite, or it might unleash nuclear war unlike any ever seen on earth.

USA homeland security adviser Tom Bossert wrote a Wall Street Journal op-ed published on 18 December that claimed North Korea was directly responsible for the cyberattack.

An earlier study of WannaCry's code by private cybersecurity firms and researchers also suggested ties to the North Korean Group.

Those possible responses include destroying a launch site before North Korea could test a missile, as well as targeting a stockpile of weapons, according to The Telegraph.

North Korean hackers have also been accused of a cyberattack on South Korean bitcoin exchange Youbit, which filed for bankruptcy this week as a result of the attack.

Security firm FireEye believes United States sanctions against North Korea are fueling its interest in Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.
