Woman killed by pit bulls outside her home

Johnny Dale Lankford, 42, was already in custody on domestic violence charges when police in Arjay, Kentucky, arrested him for the animal attack which left Lorraine Brock Saylor dead and her husband Johnny injured.

The call came in around 10:20 Sunday morning.

A pair of pit bulls killed a woman and injured her husband on Christmas Eve at their Kentucky home. "That's what she was doing this morning and two dogs attacked her while she was doing that".

"I'd seen them, but I didn't think they'd be mean like that", James Saylor said. The man was taken to a nearby hospital, officials said. One of the pitbulls was shot and killed while the other ran off. One escaped, however, according to the sheriff's department.

Animal control and the Bell County Sheriff's Department are now searching for the brown Pit bull.

This is not the only pit bull attack of the year.

"They were just a super nice couple and I can't even begin to put myself in his shoes, it's overwhelming the circumstances and what he found", said Steele.

Animal rights group PETA said that pit bulls are "the most abused dogs on Earth".

The sheriff's department said a caller had reported his brother and sister-in-law were attacked by two of their neighbour's dogs. They say the woman died from her injuries in the attack.

Also responding to the scene was Bell County EMS, Bell County Coroner Jay Steele, Bell County Animal Control Officer Patsy Bracken and assistance from the Kentucky State Police Post 10. Following the attack, MA councilor Rodney Elliot proposed a citywide ban on pit bulls.

James Saylor said he is still just trying to understand the attack.
