Airtel, Idea Shares Hit After Reliance Jio's Surprise Republic Day Offer

Reliance Jio announces Republic Day offer with bigger data plans All you should know

Airtel vs Reliance Jio: Rs 448 plan and Rs 448 plan Airtel's Rs 448 plan offers 1.4GB data per day with unlimited local and STD calling and 100 SMS daily for the period of 82 days.

Following the announcement, the stocks of Airtel nosedived 5.99 per cent to the day's low of Rs 461.45 while the stock of Idea Cellular fell 5.58 per cent to the day's low of Rs 93.85. Conversely, Airtels recent plans included Rs. 149 prepaid plan that has been revised in fewer circles.

Jio's Rs 198 plan now offers 1.5GB daily data, and after the revision, it will offer 2GB daily data with a validity of 28 days. None of these revisions appear enough for Airtel plans to beat Jio's, which offers 1.5GB of data and 84 days of validity for the same Rs 448 price tag.

Users will have to buy a new recharge pack on or after January 26, 2018 to avail the data benefits under the Republic Day offer. The plan comes with a validity of 28 days. As per the reports, this new plan will be valid till 2018 Happy New Year.

Under the Republic Day offer, Jio's all existing 1GB per day packs will be increased to 1.5GB per day, while 1.5GB per day packs are now enhanced to 2GB per day. This plan also offers free voice with a validity of 28 days. Airtel, on the other hand, offers 1GB daily data, and validity of 84 days, up from 70 days that it used to offer before. Airtel, on the other hand, also has a similar plan priced at Rs 448.

Another setback for incumbents operators as Mukesh Ambani -owned Reliance Jio has once again come up with the new plan in which the company is offering 50 percent more data at the same price points.
