England win 3rd ODI vs Australia to clinch series

Most sixes in last five overs in ODIs since 2013

England had been inserted by Steve Smith, the Aussie skipper perhaps learning the lessons of Melbourne and Brisbane, where their guests had chased targets easily.

"If we were forced to make a decision we probably wouldn't have batted first anyway". That's obviously the rule at the moment and it's hard to overturn anything.

"If they're all good I'd like to see them playing and doing what they can to help starting to turn things around".

Australia had been managing their run chase well until Smith's controversial dismissal at the end of the 34th over. His frustration showed as Buttler took him apart no matter where he bowled.

Buttler said: "I was pretty sure it was out". "It was about me trying to control the middle with the spinners and just keep getting off strike".

They didn't quite have the fancied start to their batting innings as the Australian pace attack was on top in the first half and had them under the pump at 107/4 but the 113-run partnership between Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes gave them a thunderous push to end up with 302.

Meanwhile, the Australian suffered a huge setback on Sunday after losing the ODI series to England. They have now also lost the 10th match in the last 11 outings.

Figures this week revealed Australia had the most unsettled one-day line up in the world previous year, using 25 players in 15 games.

Jos Buttler leads the list

Umpires sent an on-field decision of out, before third umpire Kumar Dharmasena deliberated for just under four minutes before upholding the on-field decision.

Smith's initial feeling he was out changed immediately after viewing replays and he let his dismay be known as he shook his head and cursed his way back to the pavilion.

Pietersen agreed, and said the soft signal call needed to go. I'm not watching the ball closely enough or something like that. Get rid of the soft signal.

"We are 15 guys who can all do a fantastic role and have got full confidence that anyone who comes in the squad, he is going to give 100 per cent", he said. "It's a very, very big passage of play that". Personally I would have given that not out. "There's enough doubt for me".

Buttler was only slightly the more active partner in his century stand with Woakes, who hit five fours and two sixes in a superb unbeaten 53 off 36 balls.

Adam Zampa - 5/10 - Zampa probed with the ball and bowled an excellent googly to bowl Bairstow through the gap between his bat and pad.

The pacers had no answers as Buttler and Woakes made merry at the death.

He was even given a lifeline after Cameron White put down a sitter but failed to make the most of the break.
