One killed, one injured in explosion in Sweden

A man was killed and a woman injured in an explosion on Sunday outside a metro station in Stockholm, Sweden, police said.

He died after being taken to hospital and a 45-year-old woman also suffered minor wounds to her face and both legs.

Although some media said that the object was a hand grenade, the police have not confirmed that information or the possibility that it was a terrorist act.

A bomb squad is now on the scene, combing the station for additional explosives.

"Someone has used some kind of explosive".

The blast occurred mid-morning at the Varby gard station in Huddinge, a southern suburb of the Swedish capital.

Tabloids Aftonbladet and Expressen reported that the blast was thought to have been caused by a hand grenade, but police spokesman Sven-Erik Olsson declined to confirm the reports.

"Nothing indicates that the (injured) couple were targeted".

So far, police did not say whether the explosion was a terror-related incident.
