Arrested IM terrorist sent to 25 days police remand

The Delhi Police's special cell arrested top Indian Mujahideen militant Ariz Khan from Nepal on Tuesday.

"He was involved in several terror attacks including the 2008 Delhi serial blasts". Interestingly, Junaid had an award of Rs 15 lakh on his head (Rs 10 lakh by the NIA and Rs 5 lakh by the Delhi Police). The Batla House encounter took place six days after the serial blasts in Delhi's Pahargang, Barakhamaba Raod, Cannuaght Place, Grater Kailash and Govindpuri in which 30 people died while 100 injured. Along with other terrorists Khan was also present in Batla House and had managed to escape along with an accomplish during the encounter, the police officer said.

Police said after fleeing from L-18, Batla House in Zakir Nagar, Ariz, along with his associate Shehzad, had sought shelter from their relatives.

Khan's arrest comes less than a month after Abdul Subhan Qureshi alias Tauqeer - another accused in the Delhi serial blasts case - was apprehended after an alleged encounter in east Delhi on January 22.

A team of Special Cell including inspectors Chandrika Prasad, Amul Tyagi, Ravinder Joshi and Satish Rana, moved to the area near Banbasa Indo-Nepal border and laid a trap. He again came in touch with Riyaz Bhatkal, the Indian Mujahideen founder, who motivated him to travel to Saudi Arabia to raise money to revive the group in September 2014.

'For a cover, he worked as a labourer and also met with many sympathisers there, Kushwah said.

Junaid was arrested by the police after a chase that lasted ten years.

Khan was also a co-conspirator in the UP courts blasts matter where "he was enraged after some lawyers thrashed three terrorists of the Jaish-E-Mohammad". He married a local woman and was working as a teacher at a primary school, police said.
