Cheryl and Liam Payne arrive together at the Brits amid split rumours

Fight for this love?Cheryl and Liam put on a united front

But their sudden onslaught of loved up selfies on Instagram last night before they turned up at the BRITs together had people questioning whether it was all a "stunt".

During the live show, Jack sat down with Cheryl and Liam to speak about the One Direction singer's performance later in the evening of his Fifty Shades Freed song For You with Rita Ora.

Later, The Sun revealed Liam had sought legal advice about the end of his relationship with Cheryl, with the tot, his £54million fortune and their £5.1m marriage all considerations.

On the red carpet before the show, the couple held hands and gazed into each other's eyes as they posed for pictures. Whitehall made a decision to pay the pair a visit, visiting their table and mentioning Liam was performing a song from the new 50 Shades - a movie that focusses primarily on bondage. "Backstage we got shots of Cheryl reclining queen bee-style on a sofa with her legs draped across Liam's lap as she placed one arm along the back of the chair and fixed him with a challenging-looking stare".

Cheryl and Liam put some of those breakup rumours to rest last night. Cheryl looked stunning in a black ruffled mini dress, holding a white rose in honour of the Time's Up movement.

However, they were then hit with rumours it had all been a publicity stunt.

Nominee Payne, who is up for British single and British artist video of the year, opted for a pale grey suit jacket and black pants.

Media reports at the weekend claimed that the couple- who are parents to 11-month-old son Bear - were on the verge of splitting up, but judging by their united front at Wednesday's award ceremony, it seems that the pair are doing just fine.

And Liam was set to perform steamy new single For You with Rita Ora at the awards, which he is now promoting.
