Gmail Go is the lightweight Android email app you can't have

The Gmail Go app is basically a lighter version of the Gmail app, but supports nearly all the basic features of the main app, including multiple account support and letting you set up non-Gmail accounts such as Yahoo mail, Outlook.com or any other IMAP/POP accounts.

Google has already launched the Google Assistant Go, Google Gboard Go, Google YouTube Go, Maps Go etc. It is designed specifically for the Android Go phone users and will be available for download from Google Play Store. First of all, for now, the app is compatible only with phones which have Android 8.1 Oreo.

Android controls the middle to the low-end global smartphone market while Apple dominates the high-end. You can also set up multiple accounts on Gmail Go, it basically lets you set up both Gmail and non-Gmail addresses - Outlook.com, Yahoo Mail, or other IMAP/POP email.

The app also comes with a feature that blocks spam before it hits your inbox.

As much as I loathe Facebook Messenger, one of the app's best features is Chat Heads. The app also allows you to manage how frequent you'd like to receive notifications by disabling alerts for social or promotional messages. For a start it's considerably smaller than the regular Gmail app: it's apparently less than half the size to download, in fact, and occupies roughly half the storage space when installed, too.

The update which is due out later this year, sees Google overhauling its Android operating system with longer battery life and new designs, layouts, and icons to look more modern and "like the iPhone".

As per reports, the Gmail Go is available for only Android Oreo devices. However, it is worth noting that the app is now not compatible with devices running lower versions of Android.

Gmail Go's file size is just at 9.51 MB and will take up around 25MB of space on your device, as opposed to the full app's 20.66MB download size and 47MB storage space needed.
