India looks forward to work with Nepal's democratically: Sushma Swaraj

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj Thursday met the Left alliance leader and CPN-UML chairman K P Sharma Oli and held wide ranging discussions on ways to take the special relationship between India and Nepal forward. Swaraj will call on President Bidhya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba tomorrow.

During the meetings, Ms Swaraj assured the country's top leadership that India is looking forward to working with Nepal's democratically elected government to take bilateral ties to newer heights for mutual benefit and supports its efforts for economic growth and development. Nepal's Left alliance is preparing to form a new government which is expected to be headed by Oli.

"I told Swaraj that we want political stability and development for which we need cooperation from the neighbours". Her visit is being considered significant in the political circles in Nepal.

Speaking at a programme organised in Mahabharat Rural Municipality, Kavre, to felicitate winners of the provincial and parliamentary elections today, the Maoist chief said, "As meetings are happening back to back at both the inter and intra-party levels, it won't be long before the parties are united".

"The talks we had were very positive and constructive. She also congratulated the Left Alliance for gaining victory during the recently concluded elections".

CPN-Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal addresses a function in Mahabharat Rural Municipality of Kavre, on Thursday, February 1, 2018.

Oli, who most likely will be the next prime minister, was the focus of attention as the two sides discussed ways to further bilateral relations after government formation, among other issues.

Spokesperson of Indian External Affairs Ministry wrote on Twitter that Swaraj congratulated the leaders on the successful conduct of the recent elections. The discussions centered on deepening bilateral cooperation, including enhancing people-to-people contacts.

"Exchange of views on advancing our muti-dimensional relationship took place", Kumar tweeted.
