Israel's Netanyahu could act against Iran's 'empire'

10 2018 shows the remains of a missile that landed in southern Lebanon after Israel carried out major air raids in neighboring Syria including against what it described as Iranian targets in the country

Iran's foreign minister ridiculed a security conference speech by Netanyahu, who used a part of a drone to make a point.

Russian senator Alexei Pushkov, addressing the Munich conference shortly after Netanyahu spoke, said: "OK, you bomb Iran, and then you do what, what happens next?" while saying the Iranian issue requires acting with "responsibility". You should, it's yours. "You can take back with you a message to the tyrants of Tehran: Do not test Israel's resolve".

"Israel will continue to prevent Iran from establishing a permanent military presence in Syria".

On Sunday, Netanyahu used the conference venue in the Bavarian capital to draw an analogy between the Iran deal and the appeasement of Nazi Germany, associated with a treaty signed in Munich on the eve of World War II.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Iran and its allies were surging into territory. "And we will act if necessary not just against Iran's proxies, that are attacking us, but against Iran itself", Netanyahu said.

France, Britain, Germany, Russia and China, which signed the nuclear deal along with Iran and the U.S., say the accord can not be reopened, that it is working and that Iran is allowing inspections. Two of the detainees worked closely with Netanyahu in the past, the person said.

The Iran deal, he said, had "unleashed a risky Iranian tiger in our region and beyond".

Israel has said it shot down the drone on Feb 10 after it entered the country from Syria, and responded with a raid on what it said was the Iranian control systems for the craft in Syria. Not mentioning Netanyahu by name, Zarif told the audience that earlier in the morning they had witnessed a "cartoonish circus" that "does not even deserve the dignity of a response".

"We will not be the first ones to violate an agreement for which all of us tried - in spite of (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu's attempts - to achieve", Zarif said.

Holding up what he said was a remnant of the downed drone during his speech, Netanyahu said: "Mr Zarif, do you recognise this?"

Among Israel's main concerns is Lebanon, where the heavily-armed Iran-backed Shi'ite militia Hezbollah is part of a coalition government.

Also speaking at the conference, Russian Senator Aleksey Pushkov and former USA secretary of state John Kerry, who helped finalise the agreement, criticised moves to end the deal.
