Kushner Requests More Intel Than Any Non-NSC Employee at White House

Coward Paul Ryan Refuses To Criticize Trump For Hiring Wife Beater Rob Porter

According to reports from NBC News and CNN this week, about 100 White House administrations lacked long-term security clearances as of November 2017.

The Washington Post reports that Kushner, whose portfolio encompasses issues ranging from the Middle East peace process to modernizing the federal government's use of technology, has put in more requests for US intelligence information than any White House staffer not working for the National Security Council. "The American people deserve a White House staff that meets the highest standards and that has been carefully vetted-especially those who work closely with the president or handle sensitive national security information".

Under pressure over his handling of abuse allegations against a top aide, White House chief of staff John Kelly has ordered sweeping changes in how the White House clears staff members to gain access to classified information, acknowledging that the administration "must do better" in how it handles security clearances.

Credible recent reports indicate that 30-40 White House staff now have full access to highly sensitive classified information with only interim security clearances.

That group will include Kelly, counsel to the President Don McGahn, National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster, deputy chief of staff for operations Joseph Hagin, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, Director of the FBI Christopher Wray, and heads of appropriate agencies and their counsels, "to study the clearance process in general and to take action to streamline, harmonize, and modernize standards across the Executive Branch".

Kelly added, "We should-and in the future, must-do better". Porter resigned as White House staff secretary last week, following reports that publicized his ex-wives's accusations.

To be sure, there appear to be plenty of White House officials whose security clearance status remains in question.

Kelly also wrote of setting "benchmarks" for getting security clearances done in a timely fashion, though per WaPo he did not give any concrete details. He said additional information was turned over to the White House this month, maintaining that proper protocols had been followed. Porter was allowed to remain in one of the most sensitive posts there despite the F.B.I.'s discovery of the abuse allegations months ago. Even though the Federal Bureau of Investigation had information about the abuse claims reported by his former wives, Porter still had access to sensitive materials.

Among them: Trump's son-in-law, Kushner, and his daughter, Ivanka Trump, both of whom reportedly have interim clearance for Top Secret and SCI clearance - exactly what Kelly's memo revokes next week.

As staff secretary, Porter had direct access to President Trump and likely handled documents with classified information.

Porter's contacted Mr. McGahn and told him Mr. Porter-who by that time was also dating Hope Hicks, the White House Communications Director-had anger problems, according to the New York Times, which quoted staffers familiar with what transpired saying that Mr. McGahn advised Mr. That has eroded in a week's time, as accounts about the handling of the Porter matter continue to shift and some aides came to believe Kelly lied to save face and save his job.
