Manchester United Linked Mesut Ozil Signs New Arsenal Contract

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Ozil had been linked with an Arsenal exit at the end of the season when his previous contract was due to expire, but he has now had a turnaround and made a decision to stay at the Emirates until he is 32.

But the 29-year-old committed his future to the Gunners on Thursday, agreeing terms which are understood to tie him to the club until the end of the 2020-21 season.

And, just 24 hours later, the news was confirmed by both Ozil and the club.

Ozil joined Arsenal at the end of the 2013 summer transfer window and won the FA Cup in his first season as the club ended a nine-year wait for a trophy.

Ozil had been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United this year but said he let his "heart decide" after signing a new long-term contract in north London.

The Chile forward moved to Manchester United on wages of £505,000 a week.

The Germany global was set to become a free agent in the summer, with many expecting the 29-year-old to join Manchester United. He previously revealed his love for London and Arsenal in an interview with Goal previous year.

Writing on Instagram, the German playmaker said: 'Proud to announce: I signed dat thing...

An announcement on Ozil signing the new contract is expected imminently, meanwhile, Arsenal will be looking to bounce back from their 3-1 defeat at the hands of Swansea when they take on Everton at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

The Belgian is also after regular football to make sure of his place in Belgium's World Cup squad, telling the Dortmund website: "In order to achieve my big goal, I want to play as much as possible and score many goals. Once a Gunner, always a Gunner!"
