No Mahrez again as Leicester held by Swansea in EPL

Set-piece weakness frustrates Puel

Leicester star Riyad Mahrez has sent the football rumour machine into overdrive this week after not turning up to training four days in a row!

The winger was heavily linked with a move to Manchester City in the closing 48 hours of the January transfer window, but denied a move due to Leicester's £95m valuation.

Those misses were to prove costly and, after a tepid first-half showing, Swansea fought back on 53 minutes when Federico Fernandez rose above the defence to head in the equaliser - only his second goal in 116 games for the Welsh side.

With Leroy Sane injured until March, Mahrez would effectively have been signed as cover for the German.

"After some time, he will come back with us", he said, per Hetherington.

With Mahrez out of the side in their last two Premier League matches the Foxes have struggled, losing at Everton and then getting a point against relegation-threatened Swansea.

However, Puel is hopeful the 26-year-old can return for the remainder of the season having also played a big part in Leicester's upturn in fortunes since the French coach replaced Craig Shakespeare in October.

"It's for him, his agent and the club to deal with, but we would welcome him back".

According to BBC Sport, Man City thought Leicester wanted £95 million plus Patrick Roberts in exchange for Mahrez.

Clubs like Man City tend to speak the language of money and are quite prepared to throw it around when they need to, and yet they balked at Leicester's demands as if they were being unreasonable.

However, the Foxes would have accepted a straight £80m transfer for Mahrez, who has scored 35 goals and contributed 24 assists in 127 top-flight appearances - but that is still £20m higher than City's limit for the player.

"When they won the Premier League, he signed a new contract".

The sources said Slimani, who joined Newcastle on loan, was not on West Ham's list of targets and Leicester did not block any move because of ill-feeling towards Brady.

"Riyad is not available for this game", said Foxes boss Claude Puel. City were believed to be only willing to pay up to £65m.
