U.S. drone strike kills top Taliban commander, three Haqqani terrorists in Waziristan

The house was destroyed in the strike, according to reports from across the border. Even so, Pakistan Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said the barrier should be finished by the end of 2019.

U.S. drone strikes in the border regions of Pakistan have picked up since U.S. President Donald Trump took office in January 2017, though they are a long way off their peak in 2010.

Sources confided that the suspected militants killed in the strike belonged to the Haqqani network.

Last month, Mr Trump suspended about US$2 billion (S$2.7 billion) worth of military aid to the nuclear-armed nation and accused Pakistan of giving "lies and deceit" in return for years of U.S. funding.

"It's a free for all", Asif said, adding that as many as 70,000 people crossing the border a day.

On Friday, Karzai met with Pakistani officials about a week after Afghan President Ashraf Ghani insisted that the "center of Taliban terrorism is in Pakistan" and demanded that authorities in the neighboring country "show some concrete action to rid their territory of insurgents".

When asked to comment on Trump's tweets, Asif reiterated that "both sides are trying to decrease the stress". He called on the USA and the rest of the world community to help Pakistan in hosting such a large number of refugees and in making Afghanistan safe for those returning.

Terming the camps breeding grounds for insurgency, the foreign minister said the global fraternity must do more to assist Pakistan with shouldering the burden of repatriation.

Four Pakistani intelligence officials and three Taliban commanders told Reuters on Friday that two separate USA missile strikes on Wednesday killed the fighters. "It's in our mutual interest that the border is fenced".

Islamabad denies harboring militant groups that carry out attacks in Afghanistan.
