White House to Pull Nominee to Head Environment Council

White House to Pull Nominee to Head Environment Council

- The White House late Saturday confirmed plans to withdraw the nomination of a climate change skeptic with ties to the fossil fuel industry to serve as President Donald Trump's top environmental adviser.

Her nomination didn't move forward at the end of past year, meaning Trump was forced to renominate Hartnett White and several other nominees in January. White on a party-line vote, but her nomination languished at the end of 2017. While Carper and others who opposed Hartnett White's nomination welcomed the news, the key question will be who Trump finds to nominate next.

The withdrawal of her nomination sets into motion the search for a new head of CEQ, which Trump has tasked with narrowing and accelerating environmental reviews in step with the administration's infrastructure push.

"Kathleen Hartnett-White is a conspiracy theorist and anti-science extremist who would threaten public health as the White House's top environmental advisor", Sara Chieffo, vice president of government affairs at the League of Conservation Voters, said in a statement.

She has made the claim that "people do not die from particulate matter levels", despite World Health Organization estimates that some 3 million people worldwide die per year from particles in the air.

The White House confirmed the plans to HuffPost.

Environment and Public Works Chairman John Barrasso of Wyoming, who has praised Hartnett White as having "broad" experience in environmental issues, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee approved Ms. She then corrected herself saying, "No, I'm not". She has called carbon dioxide not a pollutant but "a necessary nutrient for plant life".

"She led the Texas environmental protection agency during a period of rapid growth in the Lone Star state economy and declining pollution levels", Moore wrote. Not content to stop there, Hartnett White has actually argued on multiple occasions that increased carbon emissions in the atmosphere are beneficial to humans. Democrats argued her views were too "extreme" and that she had shown "disrespect" for science and environmental laws.

"What you never hear and regrettably not even from our side is there is no environmental crisis", she said in 2011 at an Americans for Prosperity conference titled, "The EPA's Job Crushing Regulatory Assault". "White's", Carper said in January.
