Black Panther's dominance continues on Box Office for 5th Straight Weekend

So far since opening, Black Panther has beat premiere weekend's of Disney's A Wrinkle in Time, Fox's action film Red Sparrow, and MGM's remake of Death Wish starring Bruce Willis.

Warner Bros. reported that "Tomb Raider" took in almost 50% of the box office among the top five films in China, where the action-adventure played on 15,500 screens, and notched the studio's seventh-highest opening weekend in that market.

Black Panther's main competition over the March 16-18, 2018 weekend came from Warner Bros Pictures' Tomb Raider.

The Disney/Marvel superhero film has now earned a domestic total of just over US$600 million while becoming the first film since Avatar in 2009 to hold the top spot for five straight weekends. The movie debuted to $17.1 million from 1,628 cinemas, defeating A Wrinkle of Time and Love, Simon - the first film from a major Hollywood studio featuring a gay teen protagonist - in a surprise upset. The big release that might tank Tomb Raider's follow-up week is "Pacific Rim 2", which is also set to open nationwide next weekend.

It is only days away from overtaking another Marvel film, The Avengers, as the all-time top-grossing superhero film in North America, Variety reported. Russian Federation generated the top figure with $4.4 million at a 50% share of the top five films, followed by the United Kingdom with $4.2 million on 1,089 screens, France with $3.2 million at 553 screens and Germany and Mexico with $2.2 million each.

The film stars J. Michael Finley as Bart Millard, the lead singer of the Christian band MercyMe, who wrote "I Can Only Imagine", considered to be the most popular song in Christian music history.

"Black Panther" took in a total of $30 million internationally to push its worldwide take to $577 million - making it the fifth highest title in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by that measure. The sequel, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, saw its opening weekend numbers fall dramatically from its predecessor's. The film took fifth place with $11.5 million from 2,402 theaters. Love, Simon cost $17 million to produce.
