Bombing In Shiite Area In Kabul Kills Seven - Taliban Kill Ten Policemen

The compound inside the Afghan border is believed to have been used by Mullah Fazlullah head of the Pakistani Taliban and the dead are said to include his son Abdullah

Those killed in the missile strike included 16-year old Abdullah, the elder son of Mullah Fazlullah Khurasani. Over the past two years, a string of attacks on Shi'ite mosques and Hazara gatherings have been claimed by an affiliate of Islamic State.

Before Ghani's speech, Taliban had called for direct talks with the US.

Kabul based TOLO News reported that America's senior diplomat for South and Central Asia said the United States was in Afghanistan at the request of its government and people would be stay there to make sure the country did not become a safe haven for terrorists again.

The US today announced a Dollars 5 million award for information leading to the arrest of Afghanistan-based Maulana Fazlullah, leader of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an outfit which carries out terrorist attacks inside Pakistan.

Fazlullah is also blamed for the 2012 shooting of Pakistani schoolgirl Malala Yousafzai (mah-LAH'-lah YOO'-suhf-zeye), now a Nobel peace laureate. In 2015, the Department designated Fazlullah as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist under Executive Order 13224, which freezes all of his assets based in the United States or in possession or control of US persons.

Jamaat-ul-Ahrar is a terrorist organisation that split away from Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) while Lashkar-e-Islam is based in Pakistan's Khyber Tribal Agency.

Security personnel inspect the site of the suicide attack. Under his leadership, LeI operatives have attacked North Atlantic Treaty Organisation convoys. Islamabad charges that the Pakistani Taliban maintain sanctuaries in Afghanistan. In September 2007, the Government of Pakistan announced a reward offer of about $60,000 for the capture of, or information leading to the arrest of, Mangal Bagh.

In other developments, the Taliban launched a deadly assault overnight on an army outpost in a remote region of Afghanistan's northern Takhar province, killing six soldiers and wounding five in a blistering hours-long attack, Defence Ministry spokesman Dawlat Waziri said.

A Daesh terror attack on a Shiite cultural center in the same neighborhood in late December left 41 people dead and 80 others injured. It's believed to have been caused by a suicide bomber, according to Reuters.

The spokesman for the Pakistani Taliban says the son of their chief, Mullah Fazlullah, was among 21 "holy warriors" killed this week when missiles fired by a US drone struck a seminary in Afghanistan.

The report couldn't be independently confirmed because of the area's remoteness.

In its statement, the State Department said it is offering the rewards for information on the three militant leaders because they pose threats to Pakistan, as well as USA -led coalition troops in Afghanistan.
