Chris Hemsworth praises Vancouver, surprises fans at Rugby Sevens

New Zealand Fiji unbeaten on opening day of Vancouver Sevens

Before Vancouver, Fiji and Kenya had met last in main Cup final in Singapore Sevens in 2016 where Kenya made history, winning a maiden Cup title in the series by 30-7 scoreline.

The Aussies racked up two tries in the first four minutes and a third converted try by John Porch saw them lead 19-0 at the break.

They lost 24-19 to championship leaders South Africa in Sunday's quarter-finals. After a gritty 19-19 draw against Australia they were edged 28-21 by the United States and a 47-5 win over Uruguay wasn't enough to put see them advance.

Fiji and Kenya both showed their strength going head-to-head into the last clash of Pool C. Fiji had opened the day with a strong 47-5 win over Spain and a 38-7 victory over France.

New Zealand opened their account with a 31-26 victory over Scotland, then breezed past Russian Federation 31-5 before capping their night with a 33-14 victory over defending champions and current series leaders South Africa. England, whom Kenya shocked in the Cup quarterfinal 12-0, collected 13 points after they beat Australia 31-14 in the final for the fifth place.

The second half was a case of things fall apart for Kenya as Fiji scored 19 unanswered points to pull away with 31-12 victory.

Kenya's upset over England, also after a scoreless first half, was their first victory over the traditional powerhouses since 2011. 2018 series leaders South Africa also got points on the board with an opening 38-7 win against Russian Federation.

The final at BC Place was the second meeting between the two sides this weekend with Olympic champions Fiji having won yesterday's Pool C encounter 24-21.

The Kenya rugby sevens team "Shujaa has been paired in pool 'B" for the Hong Kong Sevens which takes place from April 6-8 and will face- off with Australia, Spain and Canada.

"I'm speechless, really proud of the boys", Fiji captain Jerry Tuwai said after the final.
