Putin: Russia will 'never' extradite alleged hackers to US

Russian President Vladimir Putin this week set the course for a new arms race with Washington as he boasted of a new generation of "invincible" Russian weapons developed in response to the threat posed by the US.

Last month, US Special Counsel Robert Mueller's office charged 13 Russian individuals and three companies with interfering in the US elections.

He said he was unaware of who could be behind those people and called on the USA to provide reliable evidence that they had done anything wrong.

U.S. President Donald Trump and his team have repeatedly denied suspicions of illegal contact with Russian officials during the election campaign.

In a Friday interview with NBC TV, Putin said, "I have to see first what they've done".

The U.S. missile defense system is largely not aimed at Russian Federation, but focused on rogue states like North Korea and Iran, he said. "Does the United States extradite its citizens to anyone?" he asked. "Let them just not talk to the press, let them provide some materials, specifics and data".

The U.S. indictment alleges that Yevgeny Prigozhin, a wealthy businessman with close ties to Putin, funded a so-called "troll farm" that sent agents to the United States, created fake social-media accounts that appeared to be U.S. -based, and used them to spread divisive messages.

"There are no indications that the Russian state could have been involved in this".

In January 2017, USA intelligence agencies said that Putin had personally "ordered an influence campaign in 2016 aimed at the US presidential election".

The Kremlin insisted USA sanctions against Russian Federation were "illegal" Saturday, a day after President Donald Trump signed an executive order to extend measures put in place during the Ukraine crisis.
