Steven Pienaar announces retirement from football after 18 years in the game

Pienaar also played for Tottenham although his time at White Hart Lane was largely frustrating

"Today I'm announcing my retirement from football,"Pienaar said in a video posted on Twitter".

Former Everton, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Steven Pienaar on Thursday night, retired form professional football, after he was released by Absa Premiership Champions, Bidvest Wits.

"My family has been supportive of the decision I've made and I just thought I have to be honest to myself, my body and my family".

"Thanks for the love throughout my career".

"It's a bit weird [no longer being a footballer], I'm just getting used to it".
